Try bowls for free this Bank Holiday at Babbacombe Bowling Club

Babbacombe Bowling Club is opening its doors over the Spring Bank Holiday as part of a nationwide campaign to give people the opportunity to have a go at bowls, for free.

Bowls’ Big Weekend, organised by Bowls England, will run from Friday 24th May to Monday 27th May, with clubs across the country hosting events over the weekend.

It’s a great opportunity for individuals, friends, families and work colleagues to get together and try a new sport in the great outdoors.

Babbacombe Bowling Club at Cary Avenue, Babbacombe TQ1 3QT is running sessions on 27th May from 10am to 4pm for members of the local community to come along, try it out and see how great bowls is!

Nicola, PR Officer, said: “We’re participating in Bowls’ Big Weekend in order to give more people the opportunity to try our great sport. No experience is needed – just turn up and have a go whenever you like on the day! Whether you come on your own or as part of a larger group, you’re sure to receive a warm welcome. The only thing we ask is that you wear flat, soft soled shoes – trainers are perfect! Otherwise, it’s just casual attire and all bowls equipment will be provided. Members from the club will be on hand to help if you want a little friendly guidance too. Make sure you sign up in advance at bowlsbigweekend. com so we can be best prepared for your visit.”

Babbacombe Bowling Club will provide a great experience off the green too, with its bar open and refreshments available – including a cream tea for £2.50pp.

Babbacombe Bowling Club will be offering follow-up casual sessions every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning between 10am and 1pm so that attendees can continue to play the sport following the Bowls’ Big Weekend.  Casual sessions cost £5 for adults and £1 for Juniors.

If you enjoy your casual sessions we encourage you to join the club as a full member and join our bowls family. Details can be found on our website: babbacombebowlsclub.org.uk

First tourist match

Today, Saturday 20th April, saw us welcome Gramphound Bowling Club for our first tourist match of the season.  The sun shone and everyone enjoyed a great game of bowls !

Well done to the Cary Parkers – Runners Up

Just a few of the Cary Parker’s were able to make it to the Steve Hayward Short Mat Presentation on Friday the 5th April due to various unseen problems. But a very happy ‘Team’ to have become this seasons runners-up in the league. The Cary Parkers were awarded the medals by the late Steve Hayward’s son Russel followed by a wonderful buffet with music by singer Paul Johnson (also a member of Babbacombe Bowls Club).  A wonderful conclusion for an friendly but competitive season of Short Mat
Well done to all !
Left to Right – Steve Lait, Arthur Chadwick, Alan Silman, Brian Bond and Captain Jacqui Bond in the front
