Bowlers have been enjoying their sport on the greens at Babbacombe Bowling Club for over 120 years.
We are a friendly club and always extend a warm welcome to players and the general public alike.
Babbacombe Bowling Club plays outdoor bowls, with some indoor matches during the winter, and a short mat season in the clubhouse in the winter.
We welcome new members (both full and social), tours, friendly matches and competitive league players.
We have a qualified EBUA regional umpire and two qualified coaches. After our Open Week in April, sessions can be arranged with the coaches throughout the season.
Torquay and the surrounding Torbay area is a popular venue for touring teams from all over the UK and Babbacombe Bowling Club enjoys hosting many tours throughout the summer months. Please contact our Fixtures Secretary to accommodate your tour.
Along with the Touring teams, an important part of our summer bowling season are the friendly games that are played both home and away with other clubs around Devon – see our Local Attractions page. Please and contact our Fixtures Secretary to accommodate your games.
For the more competitive player, or those who enjoy a mix of friendly and competitive games, the ladies have three teams in the South Devon Ladies Bowling League, the men have two teams (rinks) in the Mid Devon League, and two teams (triples) in the local Over 55s league. The club also competes in the Riviera league for mixed triples.
During the year some matches are played indoors at the Derwent Hotel against visiting tourists.
Our Short Mat is rolled out in early October and play continues throughout the winter months until March. The Club has two league teams – the “Bees” and the “Cary Parkers”. These League games are played both home and away against other clubs in the Torbay area.
Additionally, we have two internal competitions – Wednesday Pairs and mixed singles competition. Short mat bowling is open to all full members.
